OVER 7,700 residents in the Eastleigh borough will be voting by post in Thursday's borough council and European parliamentary elections.
It represents almost nine per cent of the total electorate of 88,873 and is an increase of over 77 per cent in the number of postal vote applications received for last year's borough elections.
But for those who still want to make the trip to the traditional polling stations, there will be 67 dotted around the borough which will be open from 7am to 10pm.
Voting will be for 15 of the borough council's 44 seats in addition to elections for the south east region of the European Parliament. There will also be an election for the West Ward of Bishopstoke Parish Council.
Votes will be counted and the results for the borough elections announced at Eastleigh's Fleming Park Leisure Centre the same evening.
The count for the European Parliament will take place on Sunday, June 13 from 6.30pm. The results for the Eastleigh borough area will then be reported to the Regional Returning Officer in Oxfordshire who will announce the results for the whole region once the votes from all 67 of the local counting areas within the region are known.
