TRANSIT: Remember to get up early on Tuesday to see the transit of Venus, when it will be directly between the earth and the sun.
Starting at 6.19am and finishing at 12.23pm, this is the first chance to see the transit in Britain since 1283.
When Captain Cook was sent out to observe it in Tahiti in 1769, his observations were used for the first calculation of the distance between the earth and the sun.
Remember that you must never look at the sun directly.

Let's hope for a sunny day.
HALL: As Hook grows in size, we all depend on village events, like last week's Elizabeth Hall Fete, to bring us all together.
These events take a great deal of organisation, but the results are well worth it - as the hundreds of you who came last week can testify.
However, the hall committee is looking for new members to help. If you're interested, contact Ernie Hobbs on 764746.
ALZHEIMER'S Society: On Tuesday, June 15, the Basingstoke branch of the society will be holding a Carers' Afternoon at 2pm at Old Raven House.
If you are a carer and would like to bring along the person you care for. Please call 363393 to ensure that sufficient staff will be on duty to care for them.
