Ash, Portsmouth Guildhall
WHEN a band walks on stage with the lead singer's guitar ablaze then you know you are in for a good gig.
Follow that entrance with the thunderous title track of their new album Meltdown and the anthemic Girl from Mars and Ash left Ports-mouth Guildhall baying for more.
Guitar still intact and working, Tim Wheeler and co played on, rocking a near capacity crowd long into the night.
The 90-minute set featured many of their more familiar hits including Shining Star, Kung Fu and Goldfinger but was dominated by the harder sound of Meltdown, their fifth album.
Fans young and not so young were inspired by what will be their next single, Starcrossed, but less so by the band's bleak set.
Anyway it's the music and not the show that they were there for.
Ash are back and they're better than ever.
