A BASINGSTOKE hotel is all wired up to give the latest in wireless high-speed internet services.
The Apollo Hotel believes it is the first in Basingstoke to provide fast internet access to not only the bar and lobby areas but also the majority of its 125 bedrooms.
Before the new service was introduced, guests had to connect via a traditional dial-up modem. Now they can roam between their room and the bar areas with a simple connection, which requires no extra software for their laptops.
And although the Apollo is a market leader, the wireless facilities are set to become more commonplace over the next 18 months.
Robert Rutherford, general manager of the Apollo, said: "We make every effort to keep up with customer demands, especially when it comes to technology.
"We are delighted with our new wireless internet service and expect it to prove very popular with many of our guests."
The new service is charged at £4 for 30 minutes, £7 for an hour or £15.99 for a 24-hour period.
The Apollo teamed up with Isrighthere of Reading to have the service installed.
Alan Kennett, a director of Isrighthere, said: "We are delighted to work with the Apollo Hotel on this essential addition to their already impressive facilities.
"Broadband internet in hotels is almost expected by travellers, particularly with international guests.
"This investment by the Apollo puts it firmly in the lead for providing the best business traveller service in Basingstoke."
Mr Rutherford said: "This is the completion of our business service - until someone invents something else!
"We are totally geared for business."
The Apollo also offers conferencing facilities - including video conferencing - and has a four-star rating from the AA.
Vespers, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, has an AA Rosette.
Mr Rutherford added: "There's no doubt business is beginning to pick up again in the town and we are seeing signs of a revival in the economy."
