ANDY Downes from Salisbury was a popular winner in the big John Brown Trophy grass track meeting at Whaddons Farm near Winchester.
Downes, pictured above, won the 500cc Upright class on his Jawa. The 500cc Open went to Lewis Denham, with Matt Etherington taking 350cc honours and Steve Leigh the 250cc event on his Cagiva Nutrak.
Rob Wright rode a Velo Jap to success in the Vintage class while Birmingham's Matt Fumarola gunned his Yamaha to first place in the big sidecar race in which Neal Owen and Kevin Colbourne gave them a good run for their money,
Tony Starke won the 500 sidecars from Poole's Wayne Read and Clive Preston, who was followed home by his dad, Mike Read, with Mark Thorpe in the chair. Other winners were Nathan Stoneman (youth auto cadets), Declan Rithing (juniors) , Danny Drew (cadets) and Charlie Saunders (youth).
Next big meeting is the Naomi House charity six-lapper on July 4.
