THE Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Gerry Traynor, unveiled the new Peugeot 407 to local motorists at a special launch party at Viking Peugeot.

The dealership, at The Autoplaza on Houndmills roundabout, Basingstoke, was host to the launch event last Friday and guests included Viking customers and representatives from the manufacturer's Southern regional office.

Basingstoke motorists looking for a stylish vehicle with outstanding performance can now catch a glimpse of the new Peugeot 407 at the showroom, and even take it for a test drive.

Externally, the 407's styling incorporates two strong design features that mark a new stylistic approach for Peugeot - a distinctive grille and a prominent badge.

The overall effect is one of power, strength and security - a purposeful look that conveys the performance of the car.

Inside, Peugeot's designers have created a space that epitomises sophistication and quality.

Digital air conditioning and a CD player are fitted as standard to help create the perfect in-cabin experience for everyone.

In addition, a whole host of options are available, including an all-leather interior, RT3 satellite navigation, and GSM phone and parking sensors.

Under the bonnet, motorists have a range of petrol and HDi diesel engines to choose from.

The engine options combine with five-speed and six-speed manual gearboxes or four-speed or six-speed automatic gearboxes.

All diesel engines include a particulate emissions filter and those with manual gearboxes also comply with Euro IV emissions standards, meaning company car drivers need not pay the three per cent tax applied to cars with non Euro IV-compliant engines.

Safety also comes as standard. New generation ESP, ABS and emergency brake assist give drivers control in emergency situations.

Inside, drivers are also protected with up to nine airbags and anti-whiplash head restraints.
