ST STEPHEN'S Church, Baughurst: The church held a race night and ploughman's supper last weekend.
About 100 people attended a noisy and exciting, but enjoyable and very successful, evening at Heath End Hall. More than £1,000 was raised for church funds.
THANKSGIVING Service: St Catherine's Church, Wolverton held a Thanksgiving Service last Saturday, to celebrate the life of Betty Shaw, who passed away at Easter, aged 85.
The church was packed with people who heard the fine tributes paid about her long life and good deeds.
Betty was essentially a country lady, but full of wisdom and organisational skills.
She and her husband Peter raised money for many different charities over the years, and were instrumental in starting the village market, which is held every month at Wolverton Village Hall.
She also opened her garden for charity every summer but, above all, Betty will be remembered for her friendliness and her love of the countryside, and sharing her knowledge of that with others. She will be sorely missed.
WOLVERTON village market: At the village hall on Saturday, June 5, from 9.30am to 11am.
