ONE of the most prestigious award schemes ever centred on the Test Valley was laun-ched in Stockbridge on Tuesday.
The Test Valley business Awards, which aim to highlight and showcase business achievements and excellence across the region, officially got off the launch pad with the aid of Test Valley mayor and mayoress Cllr Neville Whiteley and his wife Janet, Andover Advertiser editor Joe Scicluna and celebrity guest Colin Prescot.
Stockbridge man Colin gained the world endurance record for a hot air balloon flight in 1988, flying the Cable and Wireless balloon over 12,000 miles for 18 days.
And next year, with co pilot Andy Elson, he will again be attempting to set a world altitude record for a balloon.
The business awards launch event, at a packed Game Larder restaurant, in Stockbridge outlined the schedule for entrants, leading up to a gala presentation evening at Chilworth Manor in October.
Anyone wanting more information on the Test Valley Business Awards can contact Andover Chamber of Comm-erce executive officer Josephine Malcolm on 01264 324779 or Cheryl Dowler on 07768 735776.
A full report, with details of sponsors and pictures will appear in next Friday's Andover Advertiser.
