HAMPSHIRE skipper Shane Warne has admitted he's been surprised by England's continued success on the Test arena.

With the emergence of Andrew Strauss and Nasser Hussain's gutsy hundred on the final day against New Zealand last week at Lord's, England eased to a seven-wicket victory chasing a stiff target of 282.

And, although the win provided a sweet moment for stand-in England skipper Marcus Trescothick, Warne now feels it is the Somerset left-hander whose place should be in jeopardy.

Hussain is believed to be about to announce his retirement, relieving the pressure on Tresco once Michael Vaughan returns, but Warne said: "I got it wrong with regard to Nasser Hussain.

"I said before Lord's he should go and that New Zealand would beat England. But, fair play, they proved me wrong.

"Trescothick has been found out with his technique at Test level in the last couple of years, so I reckon Hussain should stay in with Strass, even when Vaughan comes back.

"Getting a few four-day hundreds at Somerset could be the best thing for Trescothick right now, although I still think he's an excellent one-day player."
