CITY leisure bosses have revealed details of their events programme, ranging from Southampton's famous Power in the Park pop festival in June to the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings on Sunday, June 6.
Southampton's famous July balloon festival is also set for a huge facelift this year and has been re-named The Southampton Festival.
As well as featuring the familiar balloon and flower festival, including the spectacular "Nightglow", this year's event, due to take place on July 3 and 4, will provide a showcase for the region's musicians, who will be performing in the arena at Southampton Common.
Also on the cards is a celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister's breaking the four-minute-mile barrier.
Residents of all abilities and ages are being asked to take part in a mile-long run along The Avenue on Saturday, July 10.
The event, dubbed Go the Extra Mile, will also form part of the BBC Sports Aid benefit event, with residents encouraged to take part in order to raise money for charity.
The season kicks-off next Sunday, when dozens of amateur sailors are due to leave the city's Ocean Village to take part in the second Round Britain Challenge.
The sailors are expected to return to the UK two weeks later.
Other events on offer during the summer include the Southampton Kite Festival on June 19 and 20 at Lordshill, and the women's Race for Life event on Southampton Common on July 18, which raises money for cancer research.
The traditional August Bank Holiday Fair is scheduled to take place on the Common on Monday, August 30.
