FOUR of the city's amateur boxers have achieved international recognition.

From the Golden Ring Club, Iain Weaver, Danny Kent and Tony Hill are all boxing for England in the Four Nations Championships during the next few weeks, while Southampton ABC's John Donohue has made it a magnificent quartet.

On top of that, Hill and Southampton's Richard Smart are boxing this weekend in the Junior ABA Championship finals in Huddersfield.

In recent action, Golden Ring's Mieley Lee enjoyed a one-round knockout over Gloucester's Ben Smythe, while Sean Cole avenged a previous defeat against Devonport's Matt Bradbury with an impressive points victory.

Jason Rogers, making his senior debut, lost out on points to Bristol's Martin Robins, while Tommy Watson lost a points decision against Yorkshire's Andrew Court.

Southampton Amateur Boxing Club will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of its founding, by holding a Diamond Jubilee reunion dance evening on Friday, June 11, at the First Southampton Bus Company's Social Club in Portswood, Southampton.

It is hoped that many former boxers and friends of the club will attend the event.

Anyone interested can get in touch with the organisers, by visiting the club's training quarters at the Pax Hall, Northeast Road, Sholing on any weekday evening.
