A NEW system to ensure trees are better maintained in Southampton will be introduced amid mounting concerns over civil claims from people being injured.
Last year Birmingham City Council was fined £150,000 after a rotting tree fell and killed three people.
An investigation was launched in Southampton in the wake of the tragedy and revealed a more comprehensive approach was needed for the upkeep of the 43,000 trees the city council is responsible for.
The council's Cabinet is now ready to approve setting up the Southampton Tree Operation Risk Management System when it meets on Monday.
Almost £200,000 will be set aside over the next three years for maintenance work.
