A NEW radio station is hitting the airwaves in and around Southampton for two weeks from today and, according to its organisers, it's going to be in a league of its own.
Loop FM is a community radio station aimed at young people living in the city.
It is being run by a voluntary group and was the brainchild of 24-year-old Richard Martin, who works in PR, and 23-year-old Faisal Jamil, a final-year student at Southampton Institute.
The station will be broadcasting from the studios of fellow community radio station Unity24 in St Mary's Road, Southampton.
Many of the DJs who will be broadcasting shows on the station are currently regulars on the Southampton club circuit.
"It's a way for everyone involved to get training and experience," says Richard.
"The project is for the community and aims to provide listeners with valuable information and advice as well as giving local organisations the opportunity to
promote their good work.
"The station will give its volunteers the chance to learn new skills and entertain young people with a broad range of music."
The station will broadcast for 24 hours a day during it's run until May 28.
