SHANE WARNE and Paul Terry had a text marathon while Hampshire completed a stunning 119-run win against the title favourites.
Hampshire made it six wins in seven in both forms of the game - but at Headingley yesterday they managed their most impressive win of the season while their captain was preparing to play for Australia in Zimababwe.
Terry said: "Warney has been texting me constantly over the last few days, he's been on the phone non-stop but it was important for everyone that we won without him.
"Everyone looks to Shane, he's a wonderful player and we're a better side with him but this gives the boys a big boost to know that they can win well without him.
"This was also a monkey off our backs because we haven't got a great record against Yorkshire and they're a good side. We expected a tough game and that's what we got."
Hampshire's batting during the morning session swung the game in their favour.
Terry added: "We thought that anything would be possible if we got a lead of 150, so to set them more than 300 was a bonus.
"All credit to the way we batted right down the order, it wasn't a good wicket as Yorkshire found out in their second innings."
Shane Watson will make his Hampshire debut against Lancashire Lightning in the totesport National League at Old Trafford tomorrow.
All-rounder Watson met his new teammates for the first time yesterday, and warmed up for his first match for the county with a jog around the boundary at Headingley during the tea session, before watching Hampshire win.
Hampshire are looking for a third succesive National League win and a seventh win in eight in all competitions tomorrow and welcome James Hamblin back into the squad.
