Sir.-I have been following the letters about the Winchester Road Roundabout with more than just a little incredulity that it's taken this long to be raised as an issue.
As I live in Winchester Road I have no option but to use this roundabout on a daily basis.
In addition to the bad driving already highlighted, cars travelling towards the roundabout from the football ground often stay in the right-hand lane and turn left to the ringroad, cutting in front of cars going straight on. Cars travelling along Winchester Road from the town constantly form two lanes just past the Portacre Rise turning, flagrantly driving on the cross-hatchings and causing danger to traffic entering Winchester Road from the roundabout.
I believe a lot of the congestion at this roundabout is caused by cars having no choice but to leave the ring road and rejoin it on the other side.
I understand that bridge sections were once purchased - visible for months on the grassy central reservation - so, presumably, the funding had, at one time, been allocated for this.
Perhaps the powers-that-be can explain what has happened to the original bridge and its budget?
