READING manager Steve Coppell has started to re-shape his squad for next season.
A two-year deal for Burnley winger Glen Little has been finalised, subject to a medical, and Coppell has released first-teamers John Salako and Kevin Watson, along with youngsters Andre Fashanu, Andre Boucaud and Joe Gamble.
On Salako's release, Coppell said: "It was a hard decision. I just feel that penetration down either flank is important for us if we are to progress."
On Watson, Coppell said: "He wants first-team action and I know, because I've had phone calls myself, that there will be a queue of clubs wanting to sign him."
Watson said: "I'm very disappointed at the news and would've loved to have stayed. I'll definitely miss the club and the fans, who have treated me so well."
Midfielder Watson and Salako ironically started successful loan spells on the same day in the 2001-02 season.
Other Coppell decisions will see loan men Dean Gordon and Paul Brooker return to Coventry and Leicester respectively while new deals have been offered to Jamie Ashdown, Ricky Newman and Bas Savage. Dean Morgan has already accepted a two-year deal to remain.
Academy youngsters Louie Soares and Simieon Howell have also been offered first professional contracts.
Defenders Steve Brown and Nicky Shorey are struggling for fitness. Coppell said: "We do need some extra cover in that area and that is something I will be concentrating on."
Darren Powell and Emmerson Boyce have been linked to Reading.
