Zimbabwean Greg Lamb makes his ECB Southern Electric Premier League debut for the Hampshire Academy against South Wilts at the Rose Bowl tomorrow, 1pm.

He is one of only two senior players in an otherwise all-teenage side captained by former county opener Giles White.

Lamb, who celebrated his five-year residential qualification this week, is eager to get into nick in order to catch manager Paul Terry's eye for a possible first-team call while Shane Warne and Michael Clarke are on tour with Australia in his native Zimbabwe.

Kevin Latouf, currently 12th man at Headingley, misses an Academy match for the first time.

Hampshire left-armer James Tomlinson, who played for South Wilts in last week's defeat at Bournemouth, has returned to his studies at Cardiff University so is unavailable against the aspiring Young Hawks.

Former Hampshire batsman Jason Laney makes a nostalgic Rose Bowl return, while Salisbury schoolboy Eddie Abel lines up for the Hawks against his normal South Wilts colleagues.

Left-hander Abel, 16, is having an eight-week trial with Hampshire and, under Premier League regulations, is permitted to play for both the Academy and South Wilts.

He will open the Academy batting against South Wilts - but will play in the Bemerton club's Cockspur Cup tie at Bashley on Sunday.

The Academy and South Wilts both lost their opening games - the Young Hawks to Portsmouth - so will be anxious to make up ground.

Newly promoted Old Tauntonians & Romsey leave out four of last season's Division 2 championship-winning side against title holders BAT Sports at Southern Gardens.

Prolific opener Charles Forward, the Tulk brothers and wicketkeeper Keith Trodd are all omitted - primarily as they are unlikely to declare themselves available for the mid-season all-day 'time' cricket.

Instead, OTR go with a mixture of youth and experience, with Jodey Brown at the helm of a side which gives Premier debuts to Henry Lamb, Faisal Iqbal, Wayne Lockey, Colin Morris and Kiwi Scott Shirley.

BAT Sports name an unchanged side, with skipper Richard Dibden remaining on the sidelines due to continuing shoulder problems.

Arguably the most significant Premier 1 match could be at Havant, where Portsmouth's two-win start will come under close scrutiny.

Lee Savident's side, which only avoided relegation last season when Calmore lost their final match at Andover by two runs, have sidestepped the wet weather and got away to a flier with consecutive wins over the Academy and Liphook & Ripsley.

"They looked a very much better all-round side when they played us. There appeared to be more togetherness in their ranks," Academy manager Tony Middleton said.

Savident, who hit an unbeaten century against the Academy, now has Eastern Province opener and former captain Carl Bradfield at the top of the order.

Ironically, Bradfield was dismissed cheaply by Liphook last week but, along with Savident, will be a prize scalp for Havant tomorrow.

Tiny England Under-16 left-arm spinner Chris Morgan will play for Havant against Portsmouth.

Havant lost their opening game - a rain-cut 25-over joust with Andover - but bounced back with a terrific ECB Cockspur Cup win over Basingstoke & North Hants on Sunday.

"That victory has given everyone in the camp a terrific lift and we'll aim to push on from there," says skipper Andy Perry.

Portsmouth recall their university threesome, while Havant expect to be at full strength apart from Suffolk pace bowler Richard Pineo, who has teaching commitments at PGS.

Andover captain Roger Miller, an influential figure with either bat or ball in his hand, has been suffering from a bout of flu and may be struggling to play at unchanged Bournemouth.

"He'll want to play - no doubt about that," said younger brother Mark, who is still basking in his individual success at Havant a fortnight ago.

If Miller major is fit Andover will travel west full of confidence.

"The dressing room was buzzing when we pitched up to play BAT Sports last Saturday, but then it rained.

"Getting a win at Havant was a great way to start the season and we want to carry on in a winning vein, which I'm sure we can," Mark Miller added.

Bournemouth, whose seam bowlers won last week's battle against South Wilts, are looking to their top order batsmen to score some overdue runs.
