SOUTHAMPTON Cycle Speedway Club extended their unbeaten run at their Winchester Road track to five wins with a 105-74 triumph over Welsh visitors Newport.
Southampton were the clear favourites for this British League South-west match against a youthful Newport side, and the gulf in experience showed.
Saints: Gavin Wheeler 18+2 (5), Shaun Woodhouse 17+3 (5), Colin Wheeler 17+2 (5), Allan Busby 14 (4), Keith Snelling 13+1 (5), Tom Colling 12 (5), Ian Grinsell 11 (4), Paul Janaway 3 (3).
The two sides also contested a junior challenge fixture that Southampton won 66-64.
Nine of the 13 heats were shared and the score going into the final heat was 60-60.
The final race was a nominated heat and Saints fielded 14-year-olds Tom Colling and Paul Janaway, who were first and third respectively to give their side victory.

This coming Saturday, Southampton host the third round of the British League South-west Junior League Grand Prix series (noon, free entry).
