Sir.-Having read your paper last Friday, I feel moved to share Anthony Collings' comments regarding the Winchester Road Roundabout.
This roundabout forms part of my journey home, from the Thornycroft direction. Without fail, I see inconsiderate and ignorant drivers, who feel that turning right from the left hand lane, thereby shaving precious seconds from their journey, is acceptable driving etiquette.
I find this even more frustrating than perhaps others, as I need to turn left, up past B&Q - a route denied to me on more than one occasion, due to drivers blocking my way.
Clearly, many motorists cannot function without appropriate painted directions on the road, so when will the council do the right thing and paint directive arrows indicating the most appropriate lanes?
Perhaps we could even have some traffic police presence to send the message home.

Sir.-For weeks I have been intending to write to complain about the flagrant flouting of the Highway Code at the Winchester Road Roundabout.
Therefore, I would like to totally endorse the views of your reader Anthony Collings and add my voice to what I hope will become a vociferous campaign to make that roundabout safer.

Sir.-I write in agreement to last week's letter from Anthony Collings.
I too have to use Winchester Road Roundabout from Safeway, on my way home, and can guarantee every time to witness cars in the left hand lane wishing to turn right, which is clearly in breach of the Highway Code.
This causes understandable anger and frustration to those people queuing patiently in the right hand lane.
The simple solution, from a road safety and "fair" perspective, would seem to be for the council to paint arrows on the carriageway reminding drivers of the correct lane procedure.
