POLICE have issued an unusual appeal for the public's help for an investigation into a house fire on the Isle of Wight.
Among items damaged in the blaze in Fitzroy Street, Sandown, in December was a Forever Friends brand pot.
Forensic science experts want to carry out an experiment with asimilar pot.
It was round, about three inches in diameter, with a detachable lid and a Forever Friends figure in the centre, serving as a handle, which was hollow on the inside.
Sgt Martin Ward said: "Unfortunately the tests will mean the pot will need to be destroyed, but reasonable compensation will be paid if required."
If you can help call Sgt Ward at Shanklin police stationon 0845 045 45 45.
A 45-year-old Ryde man arrested following the blaze is currently on bail until July 2 in connection with the fire.
