JASON Bristow completed a clean sweep of awards on Saturday in recognition of his excellent season for Basingstoke Town.

The central defender, 23, scooped the Gazette readers' poll as the Basingstoke Town Player of the Season 2003-2004 after a flood of votes for him arrived at Gazette House last week.

He received his commemorative certificate from sports reporter Graeme Hamlett before the game against Sutton.

Bristow, who missed the previous season because of a potentially career-threatening cruciate ligament injury to his knee, has impressed by returning to the first team and being ever present.

Wednesday's Conference South play-off fixture against Lewes took his competitive tally to 56 games this campaign, during which he's scored six times.

Bristow, who also won The Gazette award two seasons ago, said: "I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I'm pleased because I did wonder if I'd play again when I had my injury.

"It took a lot of hard work to get back, but I always wanted to play again and that drove me on.

"I wasn't expecting to play as much as I did this season, so to win the award is a nice personal reward for the efforts I've made."

Bristow also got the thumbs up from the BTFC supporters' club, who judged him to be their player of the season.

Outgoing supporters' club secretary Dick Locker made the presentation of the trophy.

After the match, in the Camrose social club, Bristow was awarded the away player of the season, as voted for by the fans.

Craig McAllister, who is unlikely to be playing for Town next season, was runner up in the category and was presented with a bottle of champagne.

There were also three special awards presented to Argentineans Sergio Torres, Cristian Levis and German De La Vega by the Friends of Basingstoke Town.
