DETAILS of how Eastleigh council will police street parking have gone on display.
From October 1, a team of parking attendants, employed by the local authority, will be patrolling the borough's streets and car parks to enforce parking restrictions.
Currently traffic wardens, under the control of the police, carry out this task on the town's roads.
The new "Parkwise" scheme will apply to the whole borough and sets out to increase pedestrian and road safety, help improve traffic flow and ensure access for emergency vehicles.
Staff will also maintain and enforce residents' parking schemes and encourage responsible parking to reduce damage to grass verges.
A display highlighting the changes and the work of the new parking attendants is on display at Wessex House, Eastleigh for two weeks.
Arrangements are also being made for the display to be set up from May 17 to 28 at The Point and at parish council offices and libraries around the borough.
The police will continue to enforce other traffic offences which can result in penalty points on a driving licence.
But the borough's new parking attendants will issue penalty charges notices where waiting or parking restrictions on roads or in car parks are contravened.
A Parkwise leaflet with information and details of the scheme can be obtained from the council's parking administration team by ringing 023 8068 8214.
