Something's Afoot - RAODS, Plaza Theatre, Romsey
This "comedy musical whodunnit" claims to "owe it all to Agatha Christie".
Certainly, the story was full of murder, mystery and red herrings.
Director Chris Brooke took every opportunity to spin this spoof tale with style, fun and great attention to detail. From the over-the-top special effects to the well-designed set, this production oozed confidence.
A challenging musical score added to the fun of the show, with some excellent musical jokes. Lee Williams (Hope) entertained from her first entrance, showing excellent characterisation and charm and Glenda Thomas (Miss Tweed) was very "jolly hockey sticks" in her role as the spoof amateur detective.
There were lots of high-points in this production, the very funny duet performed by Julie Edwards (Lettie) and Roger Keevil (Flint) was a perfect example of the many comic moments in a highly entertaining evening.
