A 68-year-old glider pilot has died following a mid-air collision with another glider near an airfield, police said.
The accident happened yesterday over a field near Lasham Airfield, Alton.
The pilot was from Fleet, police said.
The second pilot, who was from Ascot in Berkshire, managed to parachute to safety and escape unhurt.
He is currently being interviewed by police.
Three investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in Farnborough were at the scene.
Wreckage resulting from the collision was said to be scattered across a field.
A Hampshire police spokesman said: "There was an incident near an airfield in Hampshire. Two gliders were involved.
"We don't know exactly what happened or the involvement of the two gliders.
"We do not know the specific sequence of events."
Twenty firefighters attended the incident, as well as police and paramedics.
