ANTTI NIEMI admitted Saints got what they deserved against Bolton - nothing.
After going ahead and looking comfortable for the three points, Bolton hit back with two goals in the space of two second half minutes.
Everybody inside St Mary's looked stunned when Kevin Davies slotted home Bolton's winner.
But Niemi said: "Personally, I don't think we can have too many complaints about the result.
"We scored the first goal but after that we looked like we were too comfortable. "We were dropping too deep and they created a few chances during the game - so all credit to Bolton, they did pretty well.
"Maybe against Liverpool here we got away with it, but that is football and sometimes you get punished.
"They were both pretty sloppy goals. "Everybody was expecting to get a free-kick when Danny Higginbotham was fouled before the first one but it wasn't to be.
"And for both goals we lost headers, which is always disappointing."
The defeat - Saints' fifth at home in the league this season - has almost certainly put paid to their hopes of making a late charge for a UEFA Cup spot.
Despite still having to play Aston Villa, Newcastle and Charlton, as well as Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this Saturday, a fifth-placed finish looks a very tall order.
Niemi added: "It is never out of reach but I don't think many of us having been thinking too much about Europe.
"Saints getting into Europe was always going to be a bonus.
"But if we want to finish in the top half of the table these are the games that we should be winning."
