Sir.-I have been monitoring, very closely, the case of the firefighters who were suspended and eventually sacked from Hampshire Fire and Rescue for alleged misconduct.
I am now of the understanding that Hampshire Fire Authority has been told to reinstate them.
I feel that this has gone on for long enough, five years to be precise. How much has all this cost us?
I think it only right that the public, who pay for this, should be informed of all the costs involved. I have heard a figure in the region of £2million has been spent and I feel that a breakdown should be submitted on the cost of the court cases, the lawyers, the loss of earnings to the men and the time spent on this by Hampshire Fire and Rescue personnel.
There has been a gross injustice done and the public has a right to know. I should also like to know who is responsible for this.
