End of season inter-club knockabout friendly? Not if you are at Millbrook when the first XV meet the Veterans - and the 2004 encounter was no exception.
The old stagers took the honours, courtesy of a man who has not played for 22 years, Pete Allen, the father of first team flanker Wayne.
And, to the Hampshire Division 1 regular's embarrassment, his old man overtook him on the outside to clinch the match-winning score in the free-flowing encounter that the Vets won 22-19.
"It was a superb game but there was plenty of full-blooded action, containing the odd punch-up. You wouldn't expect anything else in an inter-club game, would you?" joked manager Alan Day, one of the try-scorers for the oldies.
Ratu Degei, the powerhouse centre who retired through injury last season, returned to put himself on the scoresheet but it wasn't enough for the young guns to claim the late-night bar bragging rights at the Lordshill Recreation Ground.
Southampton's club XV side were still too strong for tourists Manor Park from Nuneaton in the early Sunday morning kick-off as the hosts ran in five tries in a 33-0 win.
Skipper Tony Cador helped himself to a brace while Chris Milne, Jason Porter and John Sharp all got themselves on the card as the Veterans also picked up a win over their visitors 24-10.
On the Channel Islands, Jersey claimed the Siam Cup for the12th successive season but they did not have it all their own way in defeating Hampshire Division 1 champions Guernsey 32-22 in a thrilling encounter.
Both scoring four tries, Guernsey came within three points at one stage but the home side stretched away late on to ensure the famous trophy stayed in the possession of the London Three South-West outfit.
