AS Bashley head into their make or break promotion game at Ashford Town tomorrow, chairman Ray Pinney says he knows of no approach by the club towards former Andover supremo Ken Cunningham-Brown.

Although Bash secretary Pete Plowman has been in contact with the millionaire racehorse trainer, Pinney stressed there is absolutely no truth in suggestions that the man who led Andover to back-to-back Wessex League titles poses a threat to manager John Robson's job.

Pinney said: "Maybe Mr Plowman's thoughts for the future are that he might want Mr Cunningham-Brown to come on board to help as a director, but as far as coming here as a manager is concerned I would have thought it inappropriate for anyone to be talking about another manager at such a sensitive time of the season."

The Bash chairman was also quick to refute rumours that Cunningham-Brown would raid FA Vase finalists Winchester City for former Andover stars like Andy Forbes, Matt Bicknell and Lloyd Webber.

Pinney said: "If someone has spoken out of turn, then we owe Winchester an apology. It's embarrassing to be talking about pinching their players at a very important time of the season when they're going for the FA Vase.

"I've never been asked to talk to Mr Cunningham-Brown and nor have any other officials I've spoken to at Bashley."

With just two games to go Bashley are locked in a three-way battle for the eighth-place play-off spot. Banbury United - home to promoted Folkestone Invicta tomorrow - are currently in pole position with Bash and Burgess Hill Town sitting three points behind. The Foresters hope to welcome back Mark Jones, Mark Lisk and Richard Gillespie, who all missed Tuesday's unlucky 1-0 defeat at league leaders Kings Lynn.
