TWO Hampshire companies have been recognised by the Queen for their innovation.
Chilworth's Fibrecore and Denmead's Primayer are among just 112 companies nationally to be given The Queen's Award.
Both can now fly the award flag and display the emblem on their letterheads, adverts, goods and packaging, as well as other items such as cufflinks and lapel pins, for the next five years.
Fibrecore won for its work reducing the diameter of the fibre optic cable it makes and developing a coating that allows it to be used at temperatures as low as minus 55 degrees C. Improved manufacturing processes have also increased production yield by 55 per cent and reduced costs.
Managing director Dr Chris Emslie said: "Innovation is part of the very fabric of our company. Innovative research and development programmes enable us to work with customers to deliver a fibre solution that meet their specific requirements and ensures that we continue to stay one step ahead of the competition."
Primayer was selected for developing accurate water leak locators.
Three members of each company will be invited to go to Buckingham Palace for a reception hosted by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
