LEADING engineering firm MB Engineering Services has received a safety award from oil giant ExxonMobil for its safety work in Hampshire.
The firm, part of MB Engineering Solutions, won ExxonMobil's Major Contractor Safety Shield for its work at the multinational's huge refinery operation at Fawley.
Refinery manager Tom Katinas said: "Safety is absolutely paramount at our refinery and that's why this is our highest honour. It's open to all contractors and is highly coveted, therefore winning this award is a tremendous achievement for the MB Engineering Services team."
MB group safety manager Andy Affleck said: "We're often working in what are potentially extremely hazardous and demanding environments and our attitude and approach to safe working is well known to all our clients."
The shield is awarded annually to the contractor with the best record of safe working in the refinery, following assessment against a number of strict criteria.
MB Engineering Services had on average 30 workers at the Fawley refinery during 2003 and was the highest scoring of the 23 contractors involved on site.
Throughout the year it was involved in erection, installation and repair of storage tanks, spheres and large pressure vessels plus associated pipework - all without any major incidents.
