RAY Murphy is a man with a huge task: to write the history of Winchester City, one of the oldest football clubs in Britain.
Ray, the club secretary, is researching the history of the club that has stunned the football world by being the first in Hampshire to reach the final of the FA Vase and at only its second attempt.
The club was established in 1884 and is a full member of the Football Association. Despite its long history it has enjoyed relatively little success, mainly languishing in county leagues.
Ray wants to hear from anyone involved with the club over the years, from players and coaches to administrators, families and fans.
He said: "I am interested in everything - photos, programmes, documents." Among the famous players to play at City were internationals Ted Drake in the 1920s and Terry Paine in the 1950s. Terry Paine went on to help Southampton win promotion to the top-flight for the first time in 1965/66 and Ted Drake went on to manage Reading and Chelsea.
Ray also wants to collate the club's complete playing record from 1884 to the current day. He can be contacted at 21 Villette Close, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 2NR or on 07801 638158.
