EASTER was fairly quiet on the mainland running scene, but over on the Isle of Wight they held a festival of two races over the weekend.
Southampton Running Club sent two men to contest the Newport-to-Ryde Seven-Mile Road Race - Malcolm Riddle coming home 11th and third veteran in 43min 23sec and Alan Doney 16th in 44.33.
On Easter Monday the circuit moved across to Freshwater for the running of the Three Hills Multi-Terrain Race over eight miles. SRC carried out a successful defence of the team title with Eric Parker coming sixth in 50.35 seconds, Island resident Steve Haggerty finishing seventh in 50.46, and Steve Axon placing ninth in 51.32.
All roads lead to the London Marathon this Sunday. Next up on the local calendar is the Marwell Zoo 10K on April 25.
