THE Easter getaway passed off peacefully on the roads yesterday with only minor congestion as day-trippers headed for the coast.
Motorists travelling southbound were stuck in minor tailbacks during the morning on the M27 at junction four.
There was also slight congestion on the M3 motorway southbound near Basingstoke between Hook and the Dummer Interchange.
Later in the day there was congestion on major routes including the M27 from Bournemouth as holidaymakers returned home.
PC Guy Rippon of Hampshire Constabulary's Road Policing Unit said there had been no major incidents.
"Traffic has been moving well across Southampton," he said.
A spokesman for AA Roadwatch added that there had been no major problems on Hampshire's roads during the drive back from the coast on Easter Monday.
He said: "It has not been at all bad today."
