Hampshire president Lionel Smith turned out for the full county side in their recent friendly against Berks, Bucks and Oxon at Liphook - and did them proud.
Lionel, a bronzed and sprightly 68 (age, not gross score!) got the last-minute call from county captain Kevin Weeks when Basingstoke's Craig Humphrey didn't show up for the match.
The president partnered young Chris Page for one of the morning foursomes and put up a good performance, losing the game by the narrowest of one-hole margins.
Despite good singles performances by Chris Kilgannon, Shaun Justice, Ryan Henley and Mark Thistleton, who had a hole in one at the seventh, Hampshire lost the match 8-7.
