SHERFIELD End was built as a servants' quarter wing to a listed Victorian country house - but in the less grand days of the 21st century it makes a beautiful private home.

This week's Gazette Property front page says Dreweatt Neate is "babysitting" the sale because it is believed the property was the nannies' quarters for the magnificent Sherfield Hall at Sherfield-on-Loddon.

Dating from the mid-19th century, Sherfield End is marketing with a price guide of £500,000 and now has its own small annexe, which could still be for a nanny.

The annexe is the old Pump House which has been converted into a bed-sit, with a kitchenette and en suite shower room.

Accommodation in Sherfield End is spread over three floors. The master bedroom, with its en suite shower room, second bedroom and bath and shower room are on the first floor, and two more bedrooms are in the eaves.

On the ground floor, the dining room has a fireplace set into a floor-to-ceiling exposed brick wall, which has a fitted dresser to one side. The floor is woodblock.

A sitting room, with an open fireplace, and study make up the other reception areas, and the kitchen-breakfast room is adjoined by a cloakroom. A rear hall, with a walk-in larder, doubles as a utility space.

Sherfield End is set in 1.65 acres of gardens which are largely laid to lawn and include a summerhouse. Sherfield Hall and its Coach House are divided into five separate properties.
