Youngsters get the feel of running cross country

Almost 200 young people from eight schools took part in the inaugural cross country league organised by Eastleigh and District Primary Schools Sports Association.

Supported by Eastleigh Borough Council and Toynbee School, the league consisted of four different events held at Bishopstoke Playing Fields and Fleming Park and was aimed at 7 to 11-year-olds.

The overall winner of the boys and girls Primary Schools League was Knightwood Primary School, and the overall winner of the Junior Schools League was Freegrounds Junior School.

Chairman of the Association, Rowley Bucknell, said: "The League has proved to be very popular and an excellent introduction for many young people to the exciting sport of cross country. We now hope to expand the league and invite more schools to take part next year."
