THE Watermill Theatre in Newbury has created an ensemble company to perform both The Gentleman Of Olmedo from Wednesday, April 14, to Saturday, May 22, and The Venetian Twins from Wednesday, May 26, to Saturday, July 10.
Jonathan Munby's production of the latter, a Spanish classic, will use a powerful combination of flamenco, Celtic dance, live music and song to bring this masterpiece to life.
Inspired by medieval myth, The Gentlemen Of Olmedo is a tragic story of love and honour. A famous gentleman from the town of Olmedo, Alonso, sees Ines, a beautiful aristocratic lady at a fairground and they fall in love at first sight.
Unable to get near her and possessed by the woman's beauty, the gentleman employs a go-between, witch Fabia, to discover the identity of the beauty and to win her hand.
However, Ines is promised to another and one day, on the road from Olmedo to Medina, Alonso is murdered.
The King of Castille hears of the murder and brings Rodrigo to justice.
Tickets can be booked at the box office on 01635 46044 or online at www.watermill.org.uk
