SAINTS fans will get the chance to say a final thank-you to Gordon Strachan next month.
The former Saints boss, above, has provisionally agreed to play in the Danny Wallace testimonial match at St Mary's on May 17.Fitness and other commitments permitting, it will be his first public appearance at the club since stepping down as manager in February.
Matt Le Tissier, Francis Benali, Jimmy Case, Alan Ball, Nick Holmes and Tim Flowers are all expected to take part.
Strachan left Manchester United for Leeds just a few months before Wallace moved to Manchester United from Saints in September 1989, but is keen to help the former England winger who is now suffering from multiple sclerosis.
He said: "Danny arrived just after I left so I never played with him but he was an honest and brave player.
"In fact the whole family were like that. I played alongside his brothers Rodney and Ray at Leeds and they were all a credit to the family.
"They were good players, fantastic trainers and smashing lads and I hope I will be able to do my bit to show my support for Danny.
"It would be nice to be able to say thank-you to the fans too because they are first-class.
"I am hoping to play in the game and I have been working in the gym and cycling to try and get myself fit but I will have to see how I feel nearer the time.
"I will have a fitness test before the match by racing Matthew Le Tissier over 50 yards - and if I lose I'm not playing!"
