Southampton ladies have finished runners-up to Wimbledon in the South League and are through to the Hampshire Cup final against Trojans II on May 3.

They finished their league season on a high, playing some of the quality hockey that has been their trademark this season.

Despite leaking an early goal, deflected pat keeper Linda Dunham, the side played their way back into the game and dominated the latter stages of the first half and all of the second.

Horsham are no mean side and games against them are normally contested to the end but such was the incisive play of Southampton that Horsham succumbed early in the second half.

A goal, worthy of a textbook example, saw the ball released by Sarah Gwynn to Jo Knight, whose inch perfect 50-yard pass found Bex Day on the circle edge. Day calmly slipped the ball across the D to Jo Edmondson who rolled it in.

Number two was a Sue Crowley short corner, three a well worked short corner finished off by Day and number four came after teenager Katrin Rees's long wing pass found Day on the back line and she slipped the ball across the face of goal for Edmondson to tap home.

Sue Crowley almost made it five with a fine lob at a short corner but this was adjudged dangerous and disallowed. They reached the final of the Hampshire Cup with a 5-2 over Hampshire Division One title contenders Aldershot & Farnham. Goals come from Bex Day (2), Sue Crowley (2) and Jo Edmondson.

Fresh from their championship success, Southampton men continued their winning ways with a 2-1 win over Haslemere in the Hampshire Cup semi-final. Chris Stokes and Bill Ashworth scoring.

The Threes also reached the Hampshire finals day with a 5-2 win also over Haslemere.

The Under 18 boys lost 3-4 midweek to Havant in the boy's semi-final. They played some excellent hockey and were not phased by their highly-rated opponents.
