PROMPTED by constituents, I have been making enquiries about the availability of NHS dental services in the area covered by the North Hampshire Primary Care Trust.
Apparently the number of dentists offering NHS treatment has varied little over the past three to four years. There are currently 38 practices across the whole patch but only 11 offer adult registration under the NHS, while 19 offer child registration.
The disturbing news is that the total amount of time these dentists provide NHS treatment is declining. I am told this is mainly because of concerns about the new general dental services contract. This is a worrying situation.
I WARMLY commend the efforts of St Mark's CE Aided Primary School, Hatch Warren, to minimise parking problems while building work continues. Apparently the overwhelming majority of parents are co-operating fully.
How sad that a small minority of parents have been causing problems. There have been numerous complaints about cars blocking driveways, restricting pinch points and otherwise compromising safety.
It is imperative that children travel to and from school safely. Let us hope that parents who have been inconveniencing residents and endangering children will be more considerate.
A RECENT survey revealed that one out of every 10 adults questioned thought that Hitler was not a real person.
What's more, 25 per cent did not know if the Battle of Trafalgar really happened, and 20 per cent believed that Harold Wilson was Prime Minister during the Second World War.
This level of ignorance is shocking and deeply disturbing.
