Competitors were kept busy with numerous dogfish and a smattering of pout, whiting and dabs at Abbotsbury in the open Gale Force League third round.
John Van Crugten won A section with 18lb 14oz, ahead of Bob Ayres 18lb 2oz, Dave Lane 15lb 12oz and Nick Green 15lb 6.50oz.
Ben Stockley was top performer in B section with 18lb 8oz, ahead of Lee Cullen from Netley with 15lb 12.25oz, Josh Simmonds 15lb 7.50oz and Malcolm Stote from Lymington with 15lb 2oz.
Next round in the open pegged league will be at Cogden on April 23 (fishing 8pm to midnight) when plaice, doggies and some early smoothhound can be expected. The event is strictly pre-book only. Pete Hegg has the details - 01305 822833).
A full blown Gale Force League open shore fixture is scheduled for June 5 (fishing 6pm to midnight). The section between the bird sanctuary and the bridging camp along the Weymouth section of the bank will be used.
Competitors will only be allowed to return six fish of each species to the scales. Smoothhound and dogfish are expected to supply most action, along with doggies and the odd black bream. Tickets are £12 inclusive of pools. Booking-in will get under way from 4pm.
