Paul Sturrock revealed the man-management tactic that produced the unthinkable - a Claus Lundekvam goal. He called him 'The Jersey'.

The Saints boss has been desperate to get more goals from different areas of the pitch and has been continually hassling Lundekvam in training to try and get him fired up to score.

It worked. In 292 games for Saints, no manager had been able to get Lundekvam on the score sheet, but it took Sturrock juts four matches to sort that out.

He explained: "Claus is normally sent up with a duck on his head - he's normally the decoy runner.

"I've chipped away at several players that they need to start chipping in with goals and Rory chipped in last week after a wee chat.

"What I do is personally annoy Claus in training - I call him 'The Jersey.'

"That's because there's actually a jersey that goes up there but not a body inside it, because he's obviously got no chance of getting on the end of anything!

"Then he pops up and scores that goal so I'm very very pleased with him but then he gets beaten in the air for the goal so I'll have to slap him about for that as well!

"Needless to say in the dressing afterwards he was giving me a bit of stick."

The 4-1 win at Wolves took Sturrock's start as Saints boss to a highly impressive three wins from four games.

He said: "I was delighted with the performance. After the away performance at Portsmouth players had things to prove as far as their mental approach to starting games is concerned.

"We started very positively and I feel it set the tone for the game.

"The two front men I thought were superb all day.

"I was a wee bit disappointed we dropped off the pace a wee bit at 2-0 but you have to give credit to Wolves that they lifted their game at that time and got back in it. But we responded again and went on from there.

"All in all we've worked very hard on our shape over the last couple of weeks and I felt we kept our shape really, really well and there were some solid performances."

Sturrock added: "To be fair we've had two away games and two difficult home games but the players have responded to the new manager and the wee tinkerings I've done they've taken on board.

"With some of the players we've simplified their games and I think Rory's probably had his two best performances of the season after looking at some of the tapes. He now appreciates his role in the team.

"The kid Folly's come out and been absolutely outstanding.

"Not many people know him and many won't think of him playing in this game but the job he did was unbelievable - there was no passes up to the front men without his presence on it. I thought he was tactically our best player."
