A competent performance from Trojans in seeing off the potentially awkward trip to Sandown & Shanklin has ensured they will at least be in the Hampshire Division One promotion play-offs at the end of the month.
Their 32-15 win on the Island was pleasing enough and they remain second behind Guernsey, who trounced Farnborough in their own tricky penultimate game 54-5 to stay a point clear of the Stoneham Lane outfit.
It will all come down now to the final game of the season, when the Channel Islanders host one-time title chasers Isle of Wight while Trojans receive improving Millbrook for the automatic place.
Trojans went behind to an S&S try buy they responded through Tim Zeale and from there on, they controlled the game and did not look like relinquishing the points they required to keep the pressure on at the top.
Skipper Russell Clarke ran in a brace of tries but they were frustrated in a stop-start game that hampered them from totalling up a healthy tally. "We were in control all the way through," felt coach Pete Surtees.
"But the game could have got quite nasty because we were not able to play fluently."
Trojans now take a week off before their match with Millbrook where they will field a full strength side in hope of a slip from Guernsey.
Fareham Heathens don't really mind if Trojans are in the play-offs as they would like the Islanders to fall again, so they can grab third spot if they defeat Farnborough at home in their final match.
But they were rather lacklustre in bypassing relegated Eastleigh, turning around a scoreless first half to use the wind in the second and score two tries before leaking a late consolation to the hosts.
Skipper Mark Dunning was pleased although he conceded that it was not one of the best.
"The twelve points we scored were hard earned," he said, "but it gives us an opportunity to press for third in two weeks time."
Heathens should not have the chance to take the position as Isle of Wight were cruising to victory at 15-5 with the final whistle approaching in their game with New Milton & District.
But two tries in the dying minutes - Tom Morgan's winning score coming on no-side - turned the game around and gave the Foresters a thrilling 19-15 triumph.
That was after the hosts had scored two tries either side of the interval, the second the strangest of scores as Milton full-back Bryn Darbyshire came to a complete standstill with a torn hamstring allowing IW winger Richard Dollimore the simplest of tries.
