COLD MOUNTAIN (15): Epic movie, starring Nicole Kidman, about love, devotion and endurance against the odds, set amid the bloody and brutal turmoil of the American Civil War.

ELF (PG): Seasonal family comedy about a man who has been brought up as one of Father Christmas' elves who returns to New York to find his biological father.

FREAKY FRIDAY (PG): A bickering mother and teenage daughter who have difficulty understanding each other swap bodies. They have to live as each other until they work out how to return to their own bodies. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis.

GOOD BOY (U): A boy discovers that he can communicate with his recently-adopted dog, who is actually a visitor from another planet - the Dog Star.

GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING (12A): Rising star Scarlett Johannson plays Griet, serving maid and muse to legendary Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer (Colin Firth) in an adaptation of Tracy Chevalier's bestselling novel of simmering sexual tension.

THE HUMAN STAIN (18): Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman star in this hit and miss drama about an African American man who is passing for white who embarks on a passionate affair with a much younger woman, with tragic consequences.

KILL BILL - VOLUME 1 (18): Quentin Tarantino returns to the big screen with this gore-filled martial arts movie. Uma Thurman stars as The Bride, an assassin who seeks violent revenge against her former gang who tried to kill her.

THE LAST SAMURAI (15): Tom Cruise is the hero in this epic adventure about an American Civil War veteran who is captured in a battle by a samurai leader who causes him to rethink his philosophy on life.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (12A): The final part of the trilogy sees the remaining members of the Fellowship of the Ring face their toughest challenge yet. Frodo is becoming increasingly addicted to The Ring, while Gandalf and co find themselves in the middle of the battle to save Middle-Earth.

LOST IN TRANSLATION (15): An American actor who is in Japan to shoot a beer commercial forms an unlikely bond with the neglected wife of a photographer who is staying in the same hotel.

LOVE ACTUALLY (15): British comedy about several intersecting love stories, including Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister who falls for his tea lady and Liam Neeson as a bereaved husband helping his stepson through his first love.

THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS (15):Keanu Reeves final outing as Neo - the chosen one who has to save the human world and free the minds of those trapped in the computer-generated Matrix.

PAYCHECK (12A): Ben Affleck stars as a computer engineer who has three years of his memory erased and must use clues he has left himself to figure out why his former employers are trying to kill him.

PETER PAN (PG): One magical, winter's night, Wendy meets Peter Pan, who invites her on a magical adventure in far-off Neverland. PJ Hogan's version of JM Barrie's children's classic focuses on the well-played romance between Wendy and Peter.

RUNAWAY JURY (12A): In the wake of an office block massacre a vengeful widow launches a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the gun company which made the killers' weapon.

SCARY MOVIE 3 (15): Final instalment of spoof horror movie series which parodies such films as 8 Mile and The Ring.

STUCK ON YOU (12A): In this new Farrelly brothers' film, conjoined twins Bob and Walt have to think about separating as one of them dreams of becoming a Hollywood star while the other wants to lead a quiet life.
