PLANNING application: Last week, the borough council development control committee considered the application to build 37 houses west of Stroud Close.
To the alarm of the parish council, Chineham ward councillors and neighbouring residents, it seems that this massive number of houses is to be constructed on top of imported spoil, raising the natural ground level by over two metres.
Irrespective of the detail of the application, local people are concerned at the haste with which the project is being pushed through, and the total lack of proper consultation.
It is not seen as a good example for others to follow since, in this instance, the borough council is also the landowner.
LAST week saw the opening of the extension to Christ Church.
Not only is it attractively designed externally, but first impressions of the internal configuration show some innovative thinking and a very spacious design.
A former archbishop addressed those attending the inaugural service, emphasising the importance of using the building to serve the community.
ALPHA courses: Two courses are starting soon at Christ Church. Both aim to give people the chance to explore the meaning of life and to find out more about the Christian faith in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Youth Alpha, for people aged 11 to 18, begins on Sunday, and Adult Alpha begins on Wednesday.
