Fareham residents have given their seal of approval to how the new £30m shopping centre in the heart of the town will look.

The computer-generated pictures posted outside the West Street building site have been catching the eye of shoppers having been released by developers just months before work on Market Quay is to finish.

They show a modern glass-fronted building next to a more traditional row of brick fronted shops, with shops, bars and restaurants.

Those wanting to escape the shopping hustle and bustle can take refuge in a fitness centre and five-screen cinema with car parking facilities.

Joint developers Miller/CTP have a team of 60 construction workers working around the clock to finish the project by the summer.

Bosses at Miller say the scheme is on target to finish on time and that following a number of requests from the public they decided to give people a sneak preview of the development.

Response from shoppers has been overwhelmingly positive.

Karen Lewis, 34, of Blackbrook Road, Fareham, said: "The pictures are great. It will make shopping in Fareham much more attractive.

"At the moment the building site is a bit of an eyesore but it's nice to know that soon it will look really good."

Tom Borris, 56, of Oak Road, Fareham said: "It's such a modern looking building that I'm not sure it will fit in. But it does look good. I will reserve judgement until I see what it looks like when it's finally finished."

Tenants for the remaining 20 per cent of retail floor space not yet let will be found by Allied Dunbar which was sold the development by Miller/ CTP.
