A LONG running wrangle over controversial plans to build a slip road for access to a huge development of homes off Bassett Avenue in Southampton could finally be resolved this week.
City planning bosses are to discuss plans which would finally see developers able to build a safe access road to a prestigious housing development at Holly Hill.
The controversial scheme first came before city planning bosses four years ago and was thrown out three times by city planners before going to a public inquiry.
Developers had wanted to build seven town houses and 77 flats on the site following the demolition of three of Southampton's most prestigious homes.
Residents fought the proposals saying the housing development would generate 700 extra traffic movements on the already overloaded Bassett Avenue.
The controversial scheme eventually went to a public inquiry where inspectors overruled the council and residents' objections - providing a slip road was built to gain access to the site.
In the latest twist to the saga, developers Banner Homes say they have bought the land needed to build the slip road which will provide access to the site from Bassett Avenue.
City bosses will tomorrow be recommending approval of the revised scheme tomorrow.
