A NEW project aimed at getting families to adopt a greener lifestyle gets under way in Hampshire this year.
Solent Energy Efficiency Advice Centre is on the lookout for families eager to make a fresh start by living in a more environmentally friendly way.
Fifteen families will be recruited to take part in the Green Resolutions 2004 initiative that will encourage them to help save energy in their households and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases over a 12-month period.
The innovative project is a joint venture run between Eastleigh Borough Council, Fareham Borough Council and Southampton City Council in conjunction with Solent EEAC.
Families chosen to take part will receive specially tailored advice on how to save energy in their homes to ensure a more environmentally friendly household.
There will also be tips on how to improve waste reduction, recycling and water conservation. The project will be monitored throughout the year by the advice centre to see just how much energy an average family in the area can save.
Free green gifts are on offer for each family throughout the project and the family which shows the most commitment to keeping green will win a special prize for their dedication to the project.
Ian Davies, of Solent EEAC, said: "We hope the project will show people that by making small changes to their routine we can all do our bit to help the environment and tackle climate change."
It is free to register for the project. Families eager to get green and take part should contact the Solent EEAC on 0800 512012.
