A NEW £1.5m accommodation block is on the cards for Calshot's Activities Centre at the head of Southampton Water.
Hampshire County Council's leisure bosses look set to give the green light to the scheme at a meeting later this week.
The accommodation, which was built in the early part of the last century, occupies most of Calshot Spit which forms a natural "gateway" into Southampton Water.
At the moment, three blocks house schools, young people, corporate clients and teachers on visits to the activity centre.
But they have been criticised by visitors for being shabby and out of date.
The planned new accommodation block will house up to 60 people in 20 bedrooms. The new block will also contain toilets and shower rooms.
The project is likely to be completed by spring 2005 if it is given the green light by County Heritage chiefs at a meeting due to be held tomorrow.
