A YOUNG woman woke up in a house full of strangers after apparently having her drink spiked in a Southampton nightclub.

The 28-year-old told police she immediately felt strange after having a drink at the Rhino Club in Waterloo Terrace on Friday evening.

Detectives believe she then left the club but it is unclear what happened to her before she woke up in a strange house in the Upper Shirley area ten hours later.

Police said the victim, who has not been named, found herself in a house with three other women.

Her shoes were muddy and her heels worn as if she had walked a considerable distance.

The other women in the house told the victim they had seen her wandering around aimlessly in the street and talking incoherently, so had taken her home to keep her safe and let her sleep.

About 11.20am on Saturday, one of the women gave her a lift to a bus stop near Southampton Sports Centre in Hill Lane.

Police said she then went home and alerted police.

Investigating officers were today awaiting the results of blood tests to help ascertain whether her drink had been spiked.

Police said there was no evidence at this stage of the victim being subjected to any sexual attack.

The incident is the fifth report of women having drugs slipped into their drinks at pubs and clubs in Southampton in recent months.

Detectives said it was vital they trace the three women who came to the latest victim's aid.

Det Con Colin Squibb, of Bitterne CID, said: "We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously. Never leave your drinks unattended - always leave them with a trusted friend - and if you suspect your drink has been tampered with, notify bar staff or call the police immediately."

Police said the victim had visited several pubs in Southampton with friends before heading to the Rhino Club at about midnight.

The victim is described as white, 5ft 4in, with brown/blonde shoulder-length hair and wearing a jumper, jeans and jacket.

Anyone who recalls seeing a woman fitting her description, and the women who went to her aid, is urged to call Det Con Squibb on 0845 045 4545.
